I grew up in Scotland, near Edinburgh, but also spent much of my childhood on the remote Isle of Coll in the Scottish Hebrides.

As a teenager, my father was furious when my careers test suggested I should be a plumber! He had envisioned me being ‘more than a plumber’ when sending me to Fettes College, Edinburgh's top private school.

So, en route to becoming a plumber, I gained a degree from Bristol University and had a career as a maths teacher, including 14 years teaching overseas.

After returning to the UK, I felt it was time for a change. So in 2011, 30 years after that school careers test I finally took my plumber training, and I've never looked back.

I am married and have three children who are now young adults.

I am a Christian.
