Toilet Repairs

I repair all kinds of toilet problems, including problems with flushes, fill valves, leaks, blockages and saniflos. Most problem toilets can be repaired. They only need replacing if the ceramic is cracked or if you would prefer a newer style.

Labour Cost
I charge £60 per hour plus parts for Mon-Fri, 8am to 6pm, within 10 miles of Salisbury. Minimum 1 hour charge, then to the nearest 0.1 hour. I am not VAT registered, so there is no additional VAT to pay on my labour. Most common toilet problems can be fixed within about an hour or slightly over. Toilets with hidden cisterns, rusted cistern bolts, or boxing that restricts access under the cistern may take longer.

Cost of Parts
One of the nice things about toilets is that the parts are mostly quite standard and I can usually fix toilets using parts that I stock in my van. For a typical flush and fill valve replacement, including cistern doughnut seal and bolts, parts cost about £45. Additional parts like a new flush lever, or pan connector, are sometimes required. In the case of toilets with hidden cisterns, I may need to order a specific branded part, such as a pneumatic flush button for example, and then return to fit it.

Blocked Toilets
Blocked toilets sometimes just need a quick plunge, but it is advisable to also lift the manhole cover outside and inspect the drains. This may reveal that the drains need rodding and jetting, which I am also fully equipped to do. Please see my Drain Unblocking page for details.

Blocked Saniflos
If your toilet has a macerator that has stopped working properly, it most likely needs opening up and cleaning inside, and the discharge pipe may need flushing through to clear a blockage. Expect this to take about 1.5 to 2 hours, as long as there is reasonable access around the Saniflo. Boxed-in Saniflos may take longer. If your Saniflo has burnt out and needs replacing, I can help you source a new one at the best price. Replacement of like-for-like is usually about a 2 hour job.
I don't normally offer a quoting service. I am happy to discuss the cost of possible replacement parts, but my labour is chargeable according to my published hourly rate. I like to prioritise small plumbing repairs, but in order to do so I have to prevent my schedule from getting filled up with larger jobs. Charging by the hour and not providing a quoting service is a natural way of achieving that. However, I do try to provide detailed guidance on how long various kinds of jobs usually take. Please see the buttons above, and feel free to call me if you need any further guidance or reassurance.

Would highly recommend Hamish. Been putting off having toilet fixed for weeks but wish I had rung him earlier! He turned up when he said he would (same day as phoning him) and carried the job out straight away. Very pleased with the work he carried out. Thankyou Hamish.
Intercom Trust, November 2015
A big thank you to Hamish for fixing our leaking toilet. He arrived on time, was really friendly and he dealt with the issue quickly and effectively. We will certainly use him again if we need to.
