Plumbing for Washing Machines and Dishwashers

I am happy to help if you need a washing machine or dishwasher to be plumbed in or connected. If the machine has a fault then you need a domestic appliance engineer.

Cost
I charge £50 plus parts for the first hour (minimum charge), then £40 per hour in 6 minute increments (for Mon-Fri, 8am to 6pm, within 10 miles of Salisbury). I am not VAT registered, so there is no additional VAT to pay on my labour. If there is already plumbing for the appliance, connecting a new machine is likely to be a quick job. Quite often the shut-off valve on the supply pipe needs replacing if it is old and seized or leaking. If you want your machine installed where there hasn't been one previously, then the installation will take longer. Generally speaking, the closer it is to the kitchen sink, the easier and quicker the installation will be.

Feasibility of Install
If you haven't bought the appliance yet but are just wondering whether installation is possible in a given location, I am happy to make a free inspection visit to advise. Most modern washing machines and dishwashers only need a cold supply from the mains, plus a connection for the discharge hose to the waste. If the machine is to be installed close to the kitchen sink, then it is usually straightforward, and the discharge hose can be attached to a spigot on the trap under the sink. This may involve changing the trap under the sink if there isn't already a spare spigot to attach to. In other locations, the machine will need its own standpipe trap to be plumbed into an available drain or waste pipe. This is only possible is there is sufficient fall, as waste water must flow naturally under gravity from a standpipe trap.

Blocked Waste Pipe
If your machine is not draining properly, it is possible there is a blockage in the waste pipe and I am happy to investigate.

Leaking Washing Machines
This may be caused by a leaking supply hose connection, either where it attaches to the shut-off valve on the supply pipe, or where it connects to the back of the machine. If the machine leaks during the discharge part of the cycle, a blockage in the waste pipe may be causing the standpipe trap to overflow, or it is possible the discharge pump is faulty and leaking.

Washing Machine Repairs
If the machine has an internal fault that needs repairing, then you need a 'Domestic Appliance Engineer', not a plumber. If you're not sure whether it is a plumbing issue or an appliance fault, call me and I will try to advise.
